We use Adobe PDF files(.pdf). Please read below.
- Adobe Acrobat can be downloaded online. The PDF format ensures that your file cannot be rewritten or altered by us. Do this first if you don't already have Adobe on your system.
- Open your document on your computer. Under the File menu, click Print... and then look at the options under Choose Printers. Select Adobe PDF. This will not print a paper version of your book. It will instead convert to a printable copy.
- This will create a second file for your book, one in the original changeable format and the new one in Adobe PDF.
- When you upload your book to us, you will go into your documents folder, and select the Adobe PDF version of your file.
You can upload files up to 500 MB in size. If you think you have an enormous document, check the Properties option of your File or Prepare menu in your program.
Color photos and artwork should be in CMYK format and 300 DPI resolution minimum.
Black and white photos should be in grayscale and 300 DPI minimum.
Black and white line work should be 600 DPI minimum.
Fonts must be in grayscale and embedded. (Adobe automatically does this when you convert your file.) Text should be in 600 DPI resolution minimum.
- CMYK means Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black and is the format printing machines will recognize.
- DPI means Dots Per Inch. Higher DPI means pictures will not be grainy when printed.
- Grayscale is a format for black and white printing to make sure gradations of those colors are correctly balanced.
- Embedded means that items become part of the program. For example, should you use a specific font that our computer does not use, we will still be able to print that document.
Please send the pages in the order they will be displayed in the book - front cover first, second page, etc...
If you do not wish to do any of this, but would still like your book printed, there will be an extra $50 charge. Please email info@kidswritethesite.com for more information.
